Media Kampung – China’s consumer price index rose 0.8 % year‑on‑year in August, the first increase since April, while producer prices climbed to 3.8 %. The surge was driven by higher food, energy and a sharp rebound in semiconductor and metal prices. Global gold spot jumped to US$4 372 per ounce, pushing Indonesian gold prices to multi‑year highs.
The rise in chip prices, reported up to 700 % over the past year, and a 34 % jump in jewelry gold prices added further pressure. In Indonesia, the price of gold jewelry reached around Rp 2.4 million per gram, while major dealers listed the following rates on 9 September 2026:
| Dealer | Harga per gram (Rp) |
|---|---|
| Antam | 2 610 000 |
| Galeri24 | 2 560 000 |
| UBS | 2 585 000 |
Higher oil prices, near‑US$100 per barrel Brent, and ongoing Middle‑East tensions are expected to keep energy costs elevated, reinforcing inflationary pressures both in China and globally. For Indonesian consumers, the combined effect means higher costs for electronic goods, automobiles and everyday commodities, while investors watch gold as a hedge against rising prices.
