Media Kampung, Scotland – A security camera installed by Liz Shanks to monitor her dog and deter burglars inadvertently recorded repeated episodes of domestic violence by her then‑partner Chris Forrest.
The footage, captured by a dog‑facing camera inside the home, shows Forrest violently restraining and strangling Shanks on multiple occasions, with his threats audible. Shanks handed the recordings to police in 2020.
Police described the material as deeply disturbing, prompting a criminal investigation that led to Forrest’s conviction in 2022. He received a 27‑month prison sentence after admitting to the abuse spanning July 2017 to August 2020.
The case highlights how ordinary security grabs can uncover hidden abuse, offering crucial evidence for victims and law enforcement. It also underscores the importance of accessible recording devices in domestic‑violence investigations.
