**Media Kampung** – Tonda Ros, creator of the upcoming game Blue Prince, has dedicated nearly 700 hours to playing UFO 50, a game he describes as his favorite of the last 20 years. Ros’s journey into the gaming world began at the young age of seven when he played the action-adventure classic Beast.
“It’s kind of like an open, nonlinear Sokoban that’s action-based and not puzzle-based,” Ros recalls. His fascination with gaming continued to grow, especially after he experienced the thrill of games on a 386 PC, diving into titles like Tank Wars, SimCity, and Star Control.
After establishing a career as a cinematographer and visual artist, Ros embarked on the creation of Blue Prince in 2016. Inspired by iconic games such as Myst and puzzle books like Maze: Solve the World’s Most Challenging Puzzle, he dedicated nearly a decade to perfecting his game. Upon its release last year, Blue Prince was quickly recognized as a modern classic in the puzzle genre.
Currently, after a brief hiatus following the launch of Blue Prince, Ros is engaged in providing technical support for the game while exploring new projects. He hints at his next endeavor, stating, “I think the next game will have to be a smaller game, logistically.”
Ros has also shared insights into his current gaming experiences. He is now playing Cairn, a rock-climbing simulator by The Game Bakers, which he finds captivating due to its intuitive controls that mimic real rock climbing. “I didn’t even have to do a tutorial to understand; that’s just how simple and intuitive the controls are, where you control each limb in sequential order,” he explains.
In discussing the game Baby Steps, he highlights the contrast in control schemes: “Both games involve controlling individual limbs to navigate mountainous terrain, but one is incredibly intuitive while the other feels clunky in comparison. I love both games, and it’s fascinating to see how similar design concepts can lead to such unique experiences.”
Reflecting on his recent gaming adventures, Ros mentions Big Walk, another climbing game he completed with friends, emphasizing the strong camaraderie experienced during play.
